Meet ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance

ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance is a brand that stands out in the pet insurance world. The program is provided by Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group,TM a strategic partner of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program Overview

Through a strategic partnership between the ASPCA and Crum & Forster, an insurance provider whose roots date back to the early 1800s, the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance brand was established in 2006. It is one of the most recognizable names in the pet insurance industry today. ASPCA Pet Insurance plans are offered by C&F Insurance Agency Inc., a Crum & Forster company.

More than 400,000 dogs and cats have been insured and over 2 million claims have been processed through the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program, making C&F Insurance Agency, Inc. one of the largest pet insurance providers in the U.S.

As long-standing industry experts and pet parents themselves, the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance team offers plans that honor the spirit of the ASPCA, while helping more pet owners provide the best veterinary care possible to their pets. Plans are underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company. The ASPCA is not an insurer and is not engaged in the business of insurance. Through a licensing agreement, the ASPCA receives a royalty fee that is in exchange for use of the ASPCA’s marks and is not a charitable contribution.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Plans and Coverage

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans strike a good balance between coverage, price and value.1 The Complete CoverageSM plan offers protection for accidents and illnesses and includes an interesting twist on coverage for pre-existing conditions (see below), plus an optional add-on for preventive services at an additional cost.

With Complete Coverage,SM your pet is covered for the things you’d expect like common ailments and injuries, as well as things you wouldn’t necessarily expect such as treatment for behavioral issues and prescription medications for covered conditions. See the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Coverage Details section below for more detailed coverage information.

If you’re only interested in coverage for injuries, an accident-only plan is also offered.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans are available for all breeds of dogs and cats. There are no networks, and you can use any licensed vet of your choice in the U.S. or Canada, including emergency clinics and specialists.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Plan Customization Options

The Complete CoverageSM plan is customizable so you can tailor it to fit your budget, needs and comfort level. There are three ways to customize your ASPCA Dog Insurance plan:

Annual Limit – This is the maximum amount you can be reimbursed during your plan year. Choose from annual benefit limits ranging from $2,500 to unlimited. The lower the limit, the lower the monthly premium—but the more financial risk you have in the event of an expensive illness or injury.

Deductible – The annual deductible is the amount you pay in covered expenses before being eligible for reimbursement. Choose $100, $250 or $500. You pay this only once per policy year, which differs from plans that charge a per-incident deductible. With a lower deductible, the monthly premium will be higher.

Reimbursement Percentage – This is the percentage of covered expenses that will be reimbursed to you after you’ve met your deductible. Choose from three options: 70%, 80% or 90%. If you want more money back from each claim and can afford a higher monthly premium, consider a higher reimbursement percentage.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Coverage Details

The Complete CoverageSM plan covers the big things like cancer and the small things like ear infections. From minor accidents to serious illnesses and the management of chronic conditions, your pet can get the care it needs to live a longer and healthier life.

ASPCA Cat Insurance plans also cover services and treatments that are not standard in some other pet insurance plans. For example, you might be surprised to know that not all pet insurance covers exam fees for covered conditions. The same goes for hereditary and congenital conditions like hip dysplasia and heart disease, as well as behavioral conditions like excessive licking. In addition, alternative and holistic therapies are covered, plus prescription medications and the implantation of a microchip. These items are built into your ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, so you won’t pay extra for them as add-on services.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Coverage Exclusions

Like all pet insurance plans, there are exclusions1 to your ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan; see list below. Before you purchase, take the time to review what’s not included to avoid confusion down the road.

Pre-existing conditions occur before coverage begins or during a waiting period. These conditions are not covered by your ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan or by any pet insurance provider in the industry. However, unlike most companies, this doesn’t mean the condition can’t be covered in the future if the condition is curable. With your ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, a curable injury or illness that is cured and free of treatment and symptoms for 180 days will no longer be regarded as pre-existing, with the exception of knee and ligament conditions. If a knee or ligament condition occurs before the coverage effective date or during a waiting period, any future ones won’t be covered.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Additional Perks

When you enroll more than one pet in an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, you receive a 10% multi-pet discount1 on the second (or additional) pets you insure. While this is a higher percentage than what some other pet insurance providers may offer, some other providers also apply the discount to the first pet when more than one pet is insured. This means the savings may be comparable to other companies who offer a lower multi-pet discount percentage.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you provide notice, in accordance with their cancellation provisions, that you wish to cancel within the first 30 days from the policy effective date, they will refund the premium paid if no covered expenses have been applied to your deductible or no claims have been paid. However, this guarantee is not available in New York.

The ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program’s My Pet Insurance App offers a fast way to submit a claim right from your phone while at the vet clinic or on the go. While other methods of managing your account and submitting claims are available, the app is all about leveraging technology to make it more convenient than ever for today’s pet owner.
